QEH out to raise funds

THE QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL (QEH) is looking to raise $6 to $8 million in donations to buy equipment.

Chief executive officer Dr Dexter James told the media and several groups attending the launch of the appeal at the Hilton Barbados resort yesterday that the institution needed an array of equipment to cover its  “emergency and emerging needs”.

According to James, some equipment at the hospital had to be replaced because it was coming towards the end of its useful life.

He said the institution did not want to be caught in a situation where it had the requisite expertise but not the appropriate technology. That would be “a waste of human assets”, he told the gathering. (TY)
