PERTH – Jerk chicken, souse, rice and peas, refreshing coconut water and even a sip of rum punch were on the menu as the West Indies cricketers were feted by fans at an open-air street-party here on Sunday evening.

The party, dubbed Welcome Home . . . Welcome To Perth, attracted several hundred Windies fans who got the once-in-a-lifetime chance to rub shoulders, touch, hug and – as everyone does today – take “selfies” with the men from the Caribbean.

The venue was Murray Street just outside the Perth city centre, but it could easily have been Oistins or The Avenue, Gros Islet or even Halfway Tree as the vibes were nice and the spirit truly Caribbean.

The West Indies arrived in Western Australia on Saturday and are here for their fifth World Cup match against India on Friday at the WACA Ground, but what they did on Sunday away from the pitch has already crowned them winners off the field.
