SYDNEY, Australia – Members of the West Indies team took time out from their busy schedule to host a group of aspiring cricketers at the Sydney Cricket Ground recently.

The youngsters, aged between nine and 12, joined the Windies at the historic venue during a training session. The event was part of the International Cricket Council’s Room To Read programme.

During the session, the Windies players conducted catching and fielding drills and also oversaw a mini cricket match.

Wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin said he was delighted to participate and share his knowledge with the group of 25 young cricketers.

“It was good to see the smiling faces and see them enjoying the moments,” said Ramdin, who is West Indies Test captain.

“As a cricketer it is important that we give back to the game and we are delighted to join with the ICC’s Room To Read to host this great event on the outfield at the SCG. It was fun for the children and fun for us as players too.”

West Indies, two-time World Cup champions, have won two matches and lost two in Pool B of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. They are in Perth to face India at the WACA Ground on Friday. First ball in the day/night match is 2:30 p.m. (2:30 a.m. Eastern Caribbean Time/1:30 a.m. Jamaica Time). (PR)
