Domestics still being deported

IMMIGRATION OFFICERS are still not up to date with the Caricom Single Market and Economy (CSME) regulations relating to the free movement of skilled workers.

As a result, they are “sending back” domestic workers, even those with qualifications who move around the Caribbean in search of work, according to Ida Le Blanc, general secretary of the National Union of Domestic Employees (NUDE) of Trinidad and Tobago.

She suggested that there be retraining and reorientation of immigration officers across the region.

Le Blanc made the call during a Press conference last week which called for the full implementation of the CSME Free Movement Regime as it pertains to domestic workers and artisans. (MB)
