NEW CAPTAIN of the Barbados’ CARIFTA girls’ swimming team, Alexis Clarke, is very optimistic that they will make a big splash when the 30th edition of the regional championship is held at the Aquatic Centre next month.
Clarke told NATION SPORT that while she was anticipating great things from the overseas-based trio of Hannah Gill, Sariyah Sherry and Kendi Bynoe, the locally-based swimmers should also give standout performances.
In this respect, she expects another powerful showing from 12-year-old national record holder Danielle Titus, especially in the backstroke events, and Ashley Weekes, who is also in her second year in that age group.
Weekes was a medallist at last year’s Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) in Barbados and Clarke believes she will get a podium finish in the 200 metres breaststroke event. (EZS)
