EVEN THE MOST STRIDENT CRITIC of the Freundel Stuart administration has to admit that the Barbados economy is moving in the right direction after six years of austerity.

That is according to Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler as he led debate yesterday in the House of Assembly on the 2015 Appropriations Bill dealing with Government’s Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the 2015-2016 financial year.

He said at the end of 2014 the Barbados economy showed signs of recovery with growth of 0.3 per cent after contracting by one per cent the previous year.

The St Michael North West MP explained that long-stay tourist arrivals were up 2.2 per cent at the end of last year, following a near five per cent decline in 2013, while there had been a whopping ten per cent jump in arrivals out of United Kingdom.
