Lester Vaughan lead the pack

LESTER VAUGHAN were the fastest out of the blocks and lead in both categories of the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletic Championships after Day 1.

They set the pace among the girls with 18 points, followed by Queen’s College on 14.50 and defending champions Springer Memorial third with 13.50.

The boys at the St Thomas school are out front with 29 points, with Harrison College on 25.50 and Christ Church Foundation 23.50.

The first gold medal was won by Cedai Springer of Darryl Jordan Secondary. She won the Under-13 Girls’ high jump, scaling the bar at 1.37 metres.

The first-time high jumper was elated with her victory. “I feel great about winning seeing it was something I never did before,” she said. (AT)
