Gun licences shot down

ACCUSING POLICE of taking the fun out of sport shooting, hundreds of firearm owners are preparing to take Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith to court.

This follows the discovery this week that the Royal Barbados Police Force has decided to revoke en masse the permits of all gun owners that carry the “sporting” label.

The Sunday Sun was informed that the issue reached boiling point last week when a long-standing member of one of the shooting clubs visited the Firearms Office at the District “A” Police Station to renew his permit and he was told by an officer they had been instructed not to accept any renewal fees.

According to one police source, there never was any provision in the Firearms Act for a “sporting licence. (RRM)
