TWENTY-FIVE Barbadians suffering with diabetes are participating in a study to see if their diabetic condition can be reversed.

And if they succeed the pilot project will be expanded regionally.

Clinical investigator of the Barbados Diabetes Reversal Study, Dr Karen Bynoe shared this good news on Saturday at annual general meeting of the Diabetes Association of Barbados, which was held at Solidarity House.

Giving an update on the project which got underway last week, Dr Bynoe said the study was intended to get persons to lose weight in order to reverse their diabetes.

It is patterned from a project undertaken last year by Professor Roy Taylor at the University of Newcastle, in England where seven of 11 participants became diabetes free. (MB)
