A LOCAL AGENCY is depending on the goodwill of Barbadians to help the needy in the country.

Advisor to the Government on Poverty Eradication, Undene Whittaker, yesterday launched the People’s Emergency Assistance Fund, which will go towards helping people who are in need.

“There are a number of people who are vulnerable and who need assistance from a day-to-day basis. And the purpose is to appeal to Barbados to assist those persons who are in such need.

“Emergency situations arise every day and persons call on this office,” Whittaker said, adding that it was impossible for her office to fulfil all the needs.

She said the situations can range from getting utilities paid or reconnected, money for gas, bus fare, lunch money and supplying basic food items. (YB)
