Fidel opts for county cricket
FRUSTRATED WITH HIS CONTINUED NON-SELECTION for the Barbados and ultimately the West Indies cricket teams, fiery fast bowler Fidel Edwards is taking his talents to England.
The 33-year-old will pack his bags and head for Hampshire this summer as soon as his stint with the St Lucia Zouks is over in the Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 tournament.
Edwards has been signed for the second part of the English county season and will be available in all formats for Hampshire as a Kolpak player, therefore not being classified as an overseas player.
“It’s been very frustrating for me not knowing what is happening with my career here (for Barbados) and of course then the West Indies, so this is the best option for me,” he told MIDWEEK SPORT today after making the announcement.
Fidel took 165 Test wickets in 55 Tests for the West Indies, and Hampshire are happy to have him.
