Region may back BSTU

LOCAL TEACHERS APPEAR at the moment to be alone regionally in their stance of not grading completed school-based assessments (SBAs) – but this could change shortly.

As of yesterday, Barbados was the only one of the 20-plus countries represented by 30 unions in the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) to give a definitive position on the seven-year grouse with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), which administers the exams.

However, it is understood that the unions in St Kitts and Anguilla are about to discuss Barbados’ position before determining their own. But general secretary of the CUT, Dr Virginia Albert Poyotte, was unable to say yesterday if the other unions would be taking a similar position to Barbados before the April 30 submission deadline imposed across the board by CXC.
