Bajan swimmers grab gold early

IT WAS JUST the start Barbados were looking for.

The hosts certainly made a big splash to start the CARIFTA Swimming Championships, having picked up four quick medals – including back-to-back golds – in the first eight races up to Press time during the opening night of the meet’s 30th edition at the Aquatic Centre.

Led by the triumphant Nkosi Dunwoody and Ashley Weekes, the aquamarine and gold definitely gave their buoyant home support plenty to cheer for while gathering medals early and often to start proceedings.

Hannah Gill actually opened the hosts’ account, clocking nine minutes 12.88 seconds to place second behind resounding Bahamian favourite Joanna Evans (8:49.32) in the girls’ 15-17 800 freestyle.
