MINISTER OF LABOUR Senator Dr Esther Byer has told the Barbados Light & Power Company it has so far not followed “procedure” in its plan for major staff cuts as part of its restructuring.

She wrote the company last week advising it of the procedure to be followed as set out in the Social Partnership Agreement before any restructuring exercise is pursued.

In a letter to the chief executive officer, dated April 1, a copy of which was obtained by the DAILY NATION, Byer wrote: “I am in receipt of your letter dated March 30, 2015, written to the general secretary, Barbados Workers’ Union and copied to me and I note the proposed restructuring.

“I would however advise that the procedure outlined in Protocol VI of the Social Partnership involves writing to me as chair of the Subcommittee of the Social Partnership and requesting a meeting, before other action is taken.”
