PRE-SANDY LANE Barbados Gold Cup favourite Gentleman’s Kitten passed away at Gulfstream Park Race Track in the United States last Saturday morning while going through his routine early morning exercise.

Owned by American racing magnates Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey, Gentleman’s Kitten became the second horse from Ramsey’s Farm to die shortly after taking part in the Caribbean most prestigious horse race.

The five-year-old bay horse by Kitten’s Joy out of Imagistic was installed as the 4/5 favourite in the 10-horse field of the Grade 1 race over 1 800 metres at the Garrison Savannah but disappointed, finishing fourth.

Gentleman’s Kitten had five career wins, two seconds and a third place and the sad news will no doubt put a damper on Ramsey’s celebration of his second Gold Cup success.

Last year’s impressive Gold Cup winner, Major Marvel, an eight-year-old gelding by Berstein out of Ms-Isdorable also passed on a few months after returning to the United States. (LY)
