Farewell to Dr Fannye Thompson
HEALTH MINISTER John Boyce and Chief Medical Officer Dr Joy St John joined members of the dental fraternity and others paying last respects to the late Dr Fannye Thompson.
The funeral service of Dr Thompson, Senior Dental Officer in the Ministry of Health, was held at St Matthias Church yesterday afternoon.
Thompson passed away in her sleep at her Chancery Lane, Christ Church home on April 1 at the age of 61, and yesterday there was acknowledgement of her sterling contribution to Barbados’ dental health service.
She was also chair of the Public Health Section of the World Dental Federation (FDI) whose president Dr Tin Chun Wong expressed “shock” at the news of her passing and described her as “a true champion in the fight for oral health” in a statement issued by the FDI. (GC)
