BARBADOS HOSTED ANOTHER successful international event for young gymnasts when the fourth annual Barbados Gymnastics Invitational was staged last weekend at the Wildey gymnasium.

The one-day event attracted 120 competitors from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Canada and Barbados and provided tremendous exposure for 33 of the island’s promising gymnasts who showcased skills in artistic gymnastics and entertained an appreciative audience with displays on the vault, floor, balance-beams and bars.

The balance, strength and impressive landings of the young gymnasts were judged by visiting experts, generally in routines mirrored on the United States Junior Olympic Programme.

Over the past two years, the Barbadians have showed great improvement and among those who produced encouraging performances were Aziza Boxill, Shaunell Neverson, Adeyah Brewster, Erin Pinder, Abigail Mustor, Chloe Griffith, Lia Perucci, Shoaib Waterman and Michael Walker. (BB)
