More sports being tested
THE NATIONAL ANTI-DOPING COMMISSION has started testing more sporting organisations.
News of this has come from chairman of the commission, Dr Adrian Lorde, who was recently elected as head of the Pan American Sports Medicine Federation, the first person from the English-speaking Caribbean to hold this post.
Previously, the commission tested fewer than 10 sports which included athletics, netball, weightlifting, cricket and swimming.
Lorde said that there was testing of athletes in most of the sports that represented Barbados at last year’s Commonwealth Games and Central American and Caribbean Games.
There are over 50 organisations in Barbados and the commission’s head said that because they are compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code, it is necessary to broaden the net of who is tested here. A new code came into effect from January 1 this year.
