Jump in abuse

CHRISTMAS IS ANYTHING but a happy time for some couples as the chairman of the SAVE Foundation reports a spike in calls to its hotlines, around that time of the year, about domestic abuse.

Liesel Daisley (below), the foundation’s chairman, said it was at Christmas, when expectations were high and money may be tight, that more women report being abused by their partners. liesel-daisley

She was speaking after receiving a monetary donation, as well as a hamper of toiletries, from Stoosh! Marketing, at Highgate Gardens.

Daisley said the six-year-old foundation was getting more calls as the issue of domestic violence became less taboo and the profile of its counselling services was raised. (HLE)
