Decline of ‘Y’ hurting BABA

IT SURE isn’t home sweet home at “The Y” anymore.

Apparently, the long-time home for basketball is no condition to house anything, as Barbados Amateur Basketball Association president Derrick Garrett acknowledged his executive was hit by scheduling and financial setbacks any time it has to play the Premier League at the YMCA.

“We are unable to collect any revenue when we go to the ‘Y’ because we just can’t charge anyone to watch basketball there due to the terrible seating and general bad conditions,” Garrett explained.

“Our typical gate receipts aren’t significant really, but it’s still revenue, and when that happens over a lengthy period of time then our losses can actually start going into the thousands. (JM)
