FREDERICK SMITH Secondary School principal Jefferson Phillips has criticised parents who fail to monitor their children when necessary.

In a stern address at the annual speech day in the Keith Griffith Auditorium yesterday, Phillips chastised parents who came to the Trents, St James school for trivial matters and to engage in “reckless behaviour”, while failing to turn up for parent-teacher association (PTA) meetings or other sessions with the administrators at the school.

Highlighting a fraças that involved a parent and pupils on Wednesday evening which left two students nursing injuries, Phillips said these types of visits were of no consequence to the children’s education, but for a PTA or form level meeting which did have bearing, some parents were seldom seen.
