HIV/AIDS still a challenge

HIV/AIDS IS STILL a public health problem with a number of adults contracting the disease.

And according to Chief Medical Officer Dr Joy St John, about 1.2 per cent of adults in Barbados are living with the disease.

She revealed the figure duringĀ a panel discussion dealing with the challenges facing modern health care in Barbados at Queens Park Steel Shed on Wednesday night.

President of the Barbados Association of Retired Persons Ed Bushell also lamented the number of elderly and the very young who are falling victims to HIV.

He said that with the prevalence of sexual enhancers the elderly ā€œcould be temptedā€. (JS)
