THE NEW HEAD of the University of the West Indies’ Open Campus Dr Luz Longsworth says she will be working more closely with the academic and business communities to help the institution carry out its assault on ignorance and poverty.

She told reporters this morning that she would be listening to the needs of both groups with a view to working towards “producing graduates who will develop their countries, their communities, their families and themselves”.

According to Longsworth, the Open Campus will be working over the next year to enhance the student experience and ensure that the programming “is truly aligned top develop a workforce that is ready and able to defeat poverty and ignorance in our societies”.

She made the comments during a media e-conference at the Open Campus where she fielded questions from journalists and UWI officials in  Barbados, Belize, St Vincent and St Lucia. (TY)
