Sonics win battle against Warriors

DON’T count out St John’s. Not just yet.

Tyrel Clarke scored 15 points, including seven straight during a decisive 11-2 run to close out the game, as Urban Vybz St John’s Sonics held on for Thursday’s 64-51 upset win over Hilton Barbados Warriors in the Co-operators General Insurance Basketball Premier League at the YMCA.

The victory – their third straight – moved them within a half game of Burger King Clapham Bulls and Pan American International Insurance Warrens for the fourth and final play-off spot after languishing in the bottom of the table for most of the season.

It was also vengeance for a heart-aching collapse against those same league-leading Warriors, who stunningly rallied from down 19 to take their dramatic first-round encounter.
