Ministry ‘meets targets’ in HIV battle

THE NATIONAL FIGHT against HIV/AIDS in Barbados is being won.

The Ministry of Health is revealing today that it has met five of its major targets in the battle against one of the world’s most contracted infectious diseases.

“The major gain in the last few years has been recognising the impact of the national expanded effort to HIV,” Senior Medical Officer of Health Dr Anton Best told the SUNDAY SUN in an exclusive interview.

He noted Barbados had been able to reach at least two of its Millenium Development Goals, of reversing the incidence of HIV infection in Barbados, and the numbers of annual deaths associated with the disease. (BA)
