SEVERAL WASTE MOVERS and haulers have been forced to park their vehicles and halt their waste collection services because they simply cannot afford to pay the newly implemented tipping fee.

Dave Hinds, financial director of Hinds Transport, said his company had halted its waste collections because they could not afford to pay the tipping fee, which was coming directly out of their company’s revenue to be recouped later from customers.

Hinds, who was among collectors who staged protest action at Warrens, St Michael, yesterday morning, said based on their system where they billed customers every 30 days, who then had a further 30-day grace period, it meant they could go more than two months before recouping their money.

Based on their business, Hinds said they could end up paying in excess of $60 000 each month in tipping fees. (LK)
