BILLIONAIRE CANADIAN BUSINESSMAN Eugene Melnyk, who has made Barbados his home since 1991, is in dire need of a life-saving liver transplant.
And the Ottawa Senators, the National Hockey League (NHL) team which he owns outright, have made a highly unusual national appeal in Canada for an organ donation. Interestingly, more than 1 000 potential donors have so far contacted the team expressing their willingness to give him a part of their liver for what is called a “live” donation.
Officials of the Ottawa hockey franchise and experts at the Toronto General Hospital, where Melnyk is now a patient, say a liver transplant is his only viable long-term option.
