Last lap for sugar?

THIS YEAR’S bulk sugar shipment to the United Kingdom could be one of last as the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation’s (BADMC) chairman admits that the market price for sugar versus the cost of production makes it highly unprofitable.

Dr Atlee Brathwaite, who is the head of the BADMC, as well as the Barbados Sugar Cane Industry Ltd, made the revelation to the Weekend Nation yesterday. 

He was giving an update on the proposed multipurpose facility slated for Andrew’s Sugar Factory in St Joseph.
