Sky gazers fixed on Saturn

THE LURE OF SEEING the ringed planet Saturn drew scores of sky gazers to the Harry Bayley Observatory on Saturday.

And for the price of Saturn, they also got to see the moon, Venus and Jupiter that night.

Adults and children, including a number of Brownie packs, thronged the recently refurbished and reopened Clapham, St Michael observatory to take a look at the celestial body.

So great was the response to the special Saturn night that officials of the Barbados Astronomical Society set up two additional pairs of binoculars and two extra telescopes on the grounds outside, as well as streamed the slightly blurred image – the result of atmospheric haze – to a large screen in the observatory’s amphitheatre.
