RESIDENTS ACROSS Barbados are being encouraged to join the global celebrations for World Environment Day and wear green on Friday.

The theme for this year’s activities is: Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.

School children, as well as public and private sector workers across Barbados, are being encouraged to wear green T-shirts, green ribbons or green articles of clothing in celebration of the day.

Environmental Education Officer in the Ministry of the Environment and Drainage, Donna King-Brathwaite, said all those who wear green on World Environment Day will be demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship.

The day will also form part of Barbados’ Environment Week celebrations, which will run until Sunday under the theme: Living Sustainably is…Consuming Care.

Barbados is recognised for its contribution as a Small Island Developing State to prevent, preempt and mitigate the effects of climate change. As a result, its achievements in preserving the environment are being highlighted globally. (BGIS)
