BAJAN JOCKEYS riding on the Canadian circuit enjoyed another good week in the saddle at the tracks where they ply their trade.

While the racing world was focused on the Epsom Derby in the United Kingdom and the American Triple Crown quest for eventual victor American Pharoah, Barbados’ star boy at Northlands Park Rico Walcott led a successful cast by booting home five winners.

Walcott landed a double on the first evening of mid-week racing – on Wednesday, piloting home Queenoftheforest over six furlongs before scoring aboard Flattering Life over a distance of 6 1/2 furlongs. Desmond Bryan was also in winner’s enclosure on that card getting home with Cain’s Wildcat.

Walcott then blazed away a triple on Saturday’s programme. He started astride B. R. Buster in the day’s third race while his other wins came through Jovial Jigs and Tiny Giant, both races going six furlongs. Walcott moved his season’s tally of wins up to 25 from 85 mounts with a winning percentage of 29. (LY)
