Court to decide if farmers’ claims timely

Christ Church farmers, after complaining for decades that a leaking Shell oil pipeline was ruining their businesses, now have to wait for the Barbados High Court to determine if their claims have been filed too late.

And even if the court rules they can proceed, and despite Shell itself acknowledging that over the years more than 300 000 gallons of aviation fuel leaked from the four miles of four-inch pipeline that runs between Oistins and the airport, the oil giant is still insisting at this time they must prove their losses in court.
