MINISTER OF SOCIAL CARE Steve Blackett has appealed to Barbadians to come together to tackle the problem of abuse of the elderly.

He said churches, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the private sector and communities needed to cooperate in this regard.

Addressing a service yesterday to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, he told the congregation at Vauxhall Methodist Church, Christ Church, that elder abuse could happen anywhere and to anyone.

He called on Barbadians to love, honour and respect the elderly, saying that being an elder did not mean that the individual did not have a valuable contribution to make to society. (TY)
