New controls for haulers
WASTE HAULERS who were protesting the introductionof a tipping fee just over a month ago now have some new impositions to satisfy as a result of yesterday’s Budget.
They will have to register with and be licensed by the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA), pay an annual licence fee and obtain an annual tax clearance certificate from the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) in order to complete the process.
While noting that increased land taxes would be redirected to assist with environmental matters, Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler made it clear Government still had to look for additional revenue to cover solid waste management.
