Sad farewell for Shemar

SHEMAR WEEKES was laid to rest yesterday in a service which had both sorrow and confusion.

The 12-year-old former student of Coleridge and Parry was found hanging at his Fryer’s Well, Checker Hall, St Lucy home on May 14, sparking national debate.

His funeral took place in the St Patrick’s Anglican Church, Christ Church, officiated by priest-in-charge Reverend Angela Phillips, who told the congregation it had a duty to take care of the nation’s children.

The confusion came when journalists were asked to leave and the police summoned to facilitate this, but while it was said this was done at the behest of Phillips, a check later with her revealed this was not so. (CA)
