“AGE DISCRIMINATION” at one Government agency could bring a halt to the movement of cargo into and out of the Bridgetown Port as early as next week.

Within minutes of giving the Barbados Industrial and Development Corporation (BIDC)approximately 24 hours to rescind letters of retirement it sent to 13 over-60 members of staff on Wednesday, National Union of Public Workers president Akanni McDowall warned that disgruntled customs officers were based a stone’s throw away from BIDC headquarters.

“I can’t tell you what will happen,” McDowall told the WEEKEND NATION, “but I can tell you that those responsible should recognise that the Customs matter is still to be settled and the customs officers are located just next door to the BIDC. We sincerely hope the letters will be withdrawn by the the deadline we gave.”
