More seaweed on the horizon

THERE IS SOMETHING huge off the shores at Hastings, Christ Church, and it is looking ominous.

Over the past two days residents and passers-by have watched in amazement as tonnes of brown Sargassum seaweed covering the surface of the water prepared to wash ashore.

The beach is already the scene of a deluge and the current mass is expected to completely cover the white sands with the brown, smelly plant material.

Along the Richard Haynes Boardwalk visitors Tiana Barksdale from New York and Robin Bruno from Montreal, Canada paused to look at the sand which could barely be seen under the seaweed. This is the first time the pair have visited Barbados and Barksdale said while they were disappointed, they would return in the future.
