Still no duty-free ease, say hotels
THE BARBADOS HOTEL AND TOURISM ASSOCIATION (BHTA) says its members are still not getting full access to duty-free concessions despite the talk from Government officials.
In a statement yesterday from the BHTA, the body said there were two aspects to the Tourism Development Act (TDA) – the duty-free importation of food and beverage items and the importation of duty-free items listed on the amended Schedule 2 of the act.
With respect to duty-free food and beverage items, the BHTA said it was working with the authorities to ensure that the requirements and regulations to operate this duty-free regime could be met and run smoothly.
“It was agreed that for a short period of one month that the system would start with only accessing alcohol, wines and protein items like meat and imported fish. (GE/PR)
