THE GYMNASIUM of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex is in line for an $18.4 million upgrade.

Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley, who made the disclosure in the House of Assembly today, said the “full renovation” of the facility was being bankrolled by China.

The work starts next April and will run for 14 months, during which time, the facility will be closed.

Lashley also said more tributes would be paid to National Hero and legendary cricketer Sir Garfield Sobers at the complex bearing his name, with a Wall of Fame and a life size statue planned.  (TY)
