ALL OF THE BENCHES in the Fairchild Street Bus Terminal will be removed to combat an outbreak of bugs there.

According to a release from the Lynda Holder, Manager – Marketing and Corporate Communications at the Transport Board, the decision was taken on Monday night.

“Due to ongoing reports from members of the travelling public of being bitten each time they sit on the benches at the Fairchild Street Terminal, the management of the Transport Board commenced a treatment programme under the guidance of the Ministry of Health. This programme has been ongoing for the last few weeks,” the release stated.

“Unfortunately at a visit to the terminal last night, to oversee another treatment, the representatives from the Ministry of Heath indicated that the situation was not improving and instructed that all of the benches in the terminal must be removed immediately to ensure that this situation does not worsen. This means that as we work on addressing this issue they will be no seating in the terminal.”

The release did not state the type of pests being treated. Temporary seating will be in place by this evening.

The Transport Board apologised for this “unfortunate situation” in the release and will be working towards a “speedy” solution. (PR/SAT)
