Stuarts tells of bond with sis

THE BOND between Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and his sister Allison was so close, he was moved to declare “I need to borrow no man’s eloquence” to deliver the eulogy at her funeral service at St Catherine’s Anglican Church yesterday.

“She was my sister, my closest friend ever, my soulmate and my intellectual companion,” the Prime Minister told hundreds inside and outside the small St Philip church where Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave and Lady Belgrave, several members of Stuart’s Cabinet and a wide cross-section of Barbadians paid their last respects.

Stuart said though the family was aware his only sister had been ailing for some time, “nothing quite prepared us for the shocking news on the ninth of this month that death had claimed her as his own”.
