Open Water gold for Alexis Clarke

ALEXIS CLARKE added another gold medal to the Barbados tally in the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) Open Water 5K race this morning in Carlisle Bay.

She improved on her CARIFTA bronze medal to take gold in a time of 1 hour 14:41.77 minutes. Nicole Franco of Costa Rica was second in 1:19:07.56, while Karla Otero of Puerto Rico was third in 1:20:46.61.

Dereck Morales of Costa Rica won the 14-17 boys’ race in 1:11:29.99.

Barbados’ Kobi Talma was sixth (1:16:12.53) while Kent Mullins was eighth (1:17:57.71).

Puerto Rico landed gold and silver in the 18 and over boys’ race with Raul Garcia winning in 1:07:46.17 and Victor Gaud was second in 1:07:53.72. Costa Rica’s Rodolfo Sanchez was third in 1:07:58.41. Barbados’ Jonathan Manning was seventh in 1:19:33.08.

Clarke’s gold medal puts the overall medal tally for Barbados at 54 medals – 20 gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze. (PG)
