IT HAS BEEN a hard road to climb for Barbados all week at both the World Youth Championships and the Pan Am Games but Rivaldo Leacock is hoping to change that today.

Leacock, one of the best junior athletes in the country, took another step in his bid to medal at the IAAF World Youth Championships currently underway in Cali, Colombia.

The fleet-footed 16-year-old produced a personal best time of 51.20 seconds in the 400 metres hurdles to finish third in the first of three semi-finals on Thursday night.

Japan’s Masakai Toyoda won that semi-final in a World Youth leading time of 50.72 seconds, while Emmanuel Langat of Kenya was second in a personal best time of 51.13 seconds. (PG)
