A danger in censoring
IT IS WITH GROWING ALARM that I pen this. In recent times in Barbados I have noticed that if someone dares disagree with anyone else, a call is made to censor the one who disagrees or threats of violence are used to try silence that person.
I refer to the letter written by Lee Farnum-Badley [last week] calling for the dissolving of the trade unions because he sees them as a threat to the economic development of the country.
A quick history lesson, sir. In Russia in the early 20th century, such thinking as yours was developed and it led to 70 years’ slavery for most of eastern Europe.
Do we need to have censorship of everyone who disagrees with you? Is that what we have come to? Next step, isis?
