SHANE BRATHWAITE won a bronze medal in the men’s 110 metres hurdles this afternoon to take the Pan Am Games medal count to three.

With a new personal best time of 13.21 seconds, Brathwaite placed third overall behind world champion David Oliver (13.07) and Trinidad and Tobago’s Mikel Thomas, who also had a personal best 13.17.

Oliver’s mark replaced the 13.10 set by Dayron Robles in 2011.

Greggmar Swift, the other Barbadian in the race, finished fourth in a personal best 13.28 seconds, fresh off winning gold at the World University Games in South Korea.

Earlier, the women’s 4×400 metres relay team advanced to tomorrow’s final with a time of 3 minutes 31.72 seconds.

Later today in Toronto, Akela Jones will be going after her second medal when she lines up for the women’s long jump final.

Barbados now has one silver medal and two bronze medals. (SAT)
