AFTER A REDUCTION in seismic activity at the Kick ‘em Jenny underwater volcano, the government of Grenada has reduced the alert level to yellow.

According to the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies, there has been a reduction in activity over the past 48 hours and none since 6 p.m. Saturday.

Around 5:50 p.m. Saturday, a team did a helicopter fly over of the area where the volcano is located.

Volcanologist Dr Frederic Dondin, who has conducted extensive research on Kick ‘em Jenny, concluded there was “absolutely nothing unusual in the area”.

The yellow alert level means that vessels should observe a 1.5km exclusion zone. However, as a precautionary measure, the marine community is advised to continue observing the 5km exclusion zone. (PR/SAT)
