Girls do Barbados proud

GUYANA’S GAIN wasn’t necessarily Barbados’ defeat.

They couldn’t stop the Guyanese from winning yet another overall crown, but the home-town heroes still came good all the same, taking the girls’ team title en route to their best gold medal showing at a Junior Caribbean Squash Championship.

Playing at Marine Gardens, the Bajan lasses upended defending queens Guyana 3-2 yesterday to give the hosts a championship-high six gold medals – surpassing any of Barbados’ performances at the previous 31 editions.

But Guyana got their revenge – and their cup – by getting the better of the home squad’s boys’ outfit 3-2 to retain not only that team title but an 11th straight overall championship. (JM)
