Justice Moore says goodbye to bench

RETIRING COURT OF APPEAL JUDGE Justice Sherman Moore has appealed to fellow judges to keep “the judicial ship afloat.”

At a farewell luncheon hosted in his honour on Friday by the Supreme Court, Justice Moore told the top brass of Barbados’ judiciary: “I have no words of wisdom, no profound statement to impart, except to say keep your shoulder to the grindstone.”

He reassured his former colleagues that the judicial ship was “not taking on water” and he encouraged those left with the responsibility for Barbados’ judicial system to “keep the furnace fully stoked and the boilers fully charged” to “maintain the course.”

Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave headed the list of guests, who included prominent current and retired jurists at the luncheon at Cin Cin Restaurant, St James. (GC)
