Sinckler wants ease for small countries

MINISTER OF FINANACE Chris Sinckler wants the global community to provide more relief for Caribbean countries reeling under the weight of foreign debt.

“Don’t just throw the zoo keeper to the wolves of international financial capital such as the IMF for yet another visionless and impractical adjustment programme,” Sinckler appealed, while addressing the 11th annual meeting of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Debt Management Specialists at the Hilton yesterday.

Delegates from across the Caribbean and Latin America as well as representatives of financial institutions such as the Inter-American Development Bank listened intently while the Minister of Finance bared his chest of the debt woes affecting so many of the region’s countries.
