Barbados have finally won at the Netball World Cup, whipping doormats Sri Lanka 67-33 during yesterday’s action at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia.

The win ended a humbling streak of five straight losses for the Bajan Gems, who dropped four of those contests by double figures before rebounding to beat the winless Sri Lanka.

Seventeen-year-old goal attack Sheniqua Thomas had great energy around the circle, combining well with goal shooter Faye Sealy, while Shonette Bruce was strong in defence.  Sri Lanka failed to shut down Barbados’ long balls and lost the battle in midcourt to fall behind 18-12 at the end of the first quarter.
